We have a huge problem in America . Well, okay, we have a bunch of huge problems, but I'm not talking about politics, social issues, or taxes. I'm talking about the fact that we have too many diet products on the market. Don't get me wrong, I know that as a nation we are obese. I could still stand to lose a few pounds myself, but all these diet products do is condition us to believe that we are ugly, unattractive, unhealthy and pathetic.

I have long thought that if we weren't reminded at every turn that we aren't stick-thin, it would cease to be an issue. I went to a shaman once who gave me a daily task I had to perform in private at home each day. I had to take off all my clothes, stand in front of a full-length mirror, and look at myself unflinchingly for 10 minutes.

Before that time, I would avoid looking in the mirror and never when I was naked. I believed what all those diet products told me. I believed that I was gross. But, when I started my daily exercise, I began to realize I looked pretty good. I was round and full, sure, but I was damn sexy. It wasn't long before I started wearing fun clothes and smiling more. I really started to enjoy my body, and you want to know the weird thing? Without changing anything else in my life, I started to lose weight, just by learning to appreciate myself.
