I have a friend whose husband takes care of everything for her. He does it all; the shopping, the cooking, the bills, the kids, all of it. She doesn't have to do anything, ever. Then, I have another friend who is just the opposite. Her husband has come to expect her to do it all. He believes it is his right to be catered to.

As an outside observer, it's clear to me that neither couple is particularly happy. That degree of imbalance sows the seeds of resentment and entitlement, neither of which are good. It seems to me all couples go through this from time to time. Adjusting and juggling household tasks and family duties seems to be par for the course. The key to keeping things running smoothly and happily is to encourage balance in the relationship.
